United States Controls (“USC” or “the Company”) is a market leader in the manufacturing of precision roll cooling systems and replacement parts for the global aluminum and steel industries. Founded in 1983 and based in Poland, OH, the Company has developed highly engineered cooling solutions for the demanding requirements and harsh environments of the metals processing industry. With more than 300 of its systems installed in mills throughout the world, USC is recognized for its premium valve designs and extensive aftermarket capabilities. Des McDonald, USC’s longtime owner, engaged Silvergrove to identify a strategic partner with global reach which could achieve increased penetration for USC’s differentiated systems, especially in growing foreign markets such as China, India and Eastern Europe. Silvergrove led a targeted process through which Delavan Spray Technologies (“Delavan”), based in Cheshire, U.K., a subsidiary of R.W. Beckett Corporation, based in North Ridgeville, Ohio, was identified as the right strategic partner. The highly synergistic transaction combined Delavan’s expertise in advanced spray nozzle design and fluid delivery with USC’s deep application knowledge and system integration capabilities in rolling mill environments to provide integrated spray solutions to mill customers, significantly enhancing the competitive position of both companies.
